Tuesday Salsa Lessons means we offer different variations of "On-1" style of salsa lessons offered during our Thursday or Friday lessons. Expand your knowledge of Salsa by learning it's different variiants by our talented team of instructors. The goal of our mixed Salsa lessons is to provide challenging, yet informative, lessons that push the beginning salsa dancer into variations of Salsa dancing that they may not be aware of. A certain level of experience is recommended. It will be assumed that you have met the following milestones:
- Able to perform the basic steps without thinking mentally
- Understand the basics of the Crossbody Lead
- Understand the basics for performing Turns
Little effort will be taken (approximately 15 minutes) to explain the basic steps during the intermediate lessons. Money will not be refunded after payment.
View the following for specifics on what we will teach each week.
Every 1st Tuesday of the Month:Salsa Footwork/Shines
Every 1st Tuesday of the month will cover intermediate concepts such as turns, rhythm and musicality through shines. Shines are a very important part to understanding how to be a better dancer by developing a strong foundation within every leader and follower.
Instructors: Guillermo Pier
Every 2nd Tuesday of the Month: Closed Hold Salsa Patterns
Typically we only teach open hold positions for our other salsa nights, but for every 2nd Tuesday of the month we will work on salsa patterns that start out with closed positions. It's not too different from open hold positions, however the amount of free space you have to work with is obviously smaller which requires a bit more precision and thinking. Other than the closed hold positions we'll cover the basic salsa steps for the beginners from 8:05 - 8:15pm and then jump into the partnering. Expect all three fundamentals in these lessons (how to turn, how to crossbody lead, and how to open break) and know them well and you'll succeed!
Instructors: Jimmy Bui
Every 3rd Tuesday of the Month: Bachata Lessons (& possibly a dance social?)
8:00 - 9:15 Bachata lessons
9:15 - 12:30 Bachata Dance Social
$5 per person for the Bachata lesson (we assume if you come anytime between 8 - 9:15pm, you're taking the lesson)
FREE for the first 20 people for the dance social (you're coming in at 9:15pm not before)
$5 per person for the dance social (after the first 20 people who get in for free)
Lessons will be either in Dominican, Modern, or Traditional Bachata. All styles may be taught, or only some! Lessons all start out with a lesson in basic modern Bachata footwork, followed by pairing up with partners where we will cover one, two, or three styles of Bachata. Expect a lesson that's packed with information that's worth more than the cost of entry!
Following the Bachata lessons, we will offer a night of social dancing to Bachata music and some Salsa music. This will be an experimental social event starting in March 2012 and will keep going as long as we have a steady amount of people. Jimmy Bui will be the DJ for the night.
Also, we'll start the night out by making the DANCE SOCIAL FREE FOR THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE that come after 9:15pm.
At the end of the night, we'll stop all music by 12:30am. However if the following occurs we will end the night earlier:
After 9:30pm, If at any time during the social we have only two or less couples dancing on the floor, we will play a maximum of two more songs before ending the night.
Instructors: Jimmy Bui & Morgan (when available)
If you would like to be a guest Bachata instructor or guest DJ for a night, send Jimmy an email and we'll work something out.
Every 4th Tuesday of the Month: Salsa Patterns with Open Breaks or Free Turns
I realize now that a lot of times, we don't cover the 3rd fundamental of Salsa enough in our beginning classes on Thursdays. Open breaks are the 3rd fundamental in Salsa dancing and are the most challenging to understand and learn. Taking advantage of how small our Tuesday night attendance are, I'll be working with each person on mastering the open break. All patterns that we will cover on 4th Tuesdays will have the element of the open break in them. We'll start out each night with basic steps for the beginners from 8:05 - 8:15pm and then we'll go right into partnering and the patterns. Expect a slow paced class as I ensure each attendee executes an open break.
Executing free turns can also be challenging, so we'll alternate between open breaks and free turns for our 4th Tuesday classes. Free turns require a certain delicacy and ease to lead and follow properly, so we'll cover these every other month or so.
Instructors: Jimmy Bui
5th Tuesdays: Dominican, Traditional, and Modern Bachata (occurs on average ever 3 months, 4 times a year)
Jimmy "JSmooth" Bui brings his years of dance experience to teach a very informative class in Bachata dancing. As an established Dominican Bachata dancer, he has pushed the limits of Dominican footwork in 4-8 counts to it's numerous possibilities. A social dancer that continues to improve his skills at the dance clubs, you'll leave understanding the limitless amount of things you can do in Bachata.
Please note that unlike 3rd Tuesdays, there will be no dance social on 5th Tuesdays.
